Does an Artist Need Marketing or Clearer Positioning?

Before you spend on another campaign.

Look at what happens after discovery

Low reach alone does not tell you what is wrong. Listen to the music alongside the artist’s profile, visuals and recent content. Can a new listener make sense of the project? Is there an obvious next step, such as another song, a live date or a place to follow the artist?

Ask someone outside the project

Give a few listeners the same small set of material without explaining it first. Ask what they remember, how they would describe the artist and whether they want to hear more. This is a small qualitative exercise, not proof of market demand. The useful signal is where their understanding differs from what the artist intended.

Choose a test that separates the problems

If people connect with the work once they encounter it, test a focused discovery route. If they are interested in one clip but cannot connect it to the wider project, test a clearer introduction or a stronger connection between the music and visuals. Avoid changing everything at once, because it becomes difficult to learn which decision helped.

Write down what would change your mind

Before spending, choose an observation that would support the next step. That might be listeners returning to another track, people asking about a show or a clearer description of the artist from new listeners. The point is not to chase a single number. It is to give the next decision a better basis than the feeling that more promotion must be the answer.
